Lena: Animals and plants take in energy and use it to move, grow, reproduce and keep functioning. Animals need more
energy than plants. So they use Glucose, a type of sugar, as their energy source. Glucose is used in a chemical reaction
called cellular respiration by animals. In this reaction Glucose and oxygen are used to produce carbon dioxide, water and energy.
Plants also make energy by respiration but they can make their own Glucose to carry out this reaction. Photosynthesis is
the chemical reaction that plants carry out to produce food. Plants that can make their own food are called autotrophs.
Animals are called heterotrophs. This means that they can't make their own food.
